Our work stems from a long legacy of demanding reparations for African Americans. The community-based redress efforts our project highlights represent the necessary work needed to address and confront the history of slavery, lynching, and systemic racism throughout the United States. Our archive of redress efforts in the United States aims to further shed light on the crucial work being conducted by activists, civil rights lawyers and scholars.
